This weekend we plan to work in the garden, pulling tomato plants and planting fall greens and vegetables. This year's garden produced mixed results. Our herb bed continues to thrive, and our greens (lettuces, mustard, kale, and arugula) gave us more than enough salad fixings, but our tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash never took off like in the past. The true stars were the serrano, jalapeno, and banana pepper plants, which flavored wraps, tamales, salads and almost everything else we cooked all summer.

While blueberries are in season, my wife and I head out one morning every weekend to a local farm and pick a gallon container of the antioxidant-heavy sweet fruits.

My favorite way to eat them is simple. After we clean them, we freeze them in pint containers, and eat them frozen. My wife usually adds some good, plain yogurt to her portion, but I am content to pop them one by one into my mouth, they are incredibly refreshing as a summer treat.
